The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the introduction of a contactless passport application system in select European countries to simplify the passport renewal process for Nigerians abroad.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Service Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, said the initiative will officially launch in Europe on February 7.
According to NIS Comptroller General Kemi Nandap, Nigerians in the United Kingdom and Ireland will be the first to benefit from the system.
This marks the second phase of the NIS’s diaspora initiative, following the launch of the contactless passport application in Canada on November 5, 2024.
The system, available via the NIS Mobile app on Google Play Store, allows Nigerians to renew their passports without visiting a passport office for biometric enrollment.
Nandap reaffirmed the service’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance efficiency and improve service delivery for Nigerians worldwide.
